Program Highlights
2 week didactic program which meets or exceeds AASM criteria.
Designated training facility in conjunction with AASM accredited sleep center*.
Curriculum designed to allow for hands-on experience and classroom instruction. Low student to instructor ratio maintained. Complete Training Manual. Feedback given directly to employers regarding trainee and outcome based measurement of successful training completion.
Clinical training available to A-STEP graduates.

Introduction to the complete polysomnogram
International 10/20 head measurement
10/20 measurement practice and correct electrode preparation and placement
Overview of sleep disorders (ICSD-II)
Defining and scoring respiratory events
Continuous positive airway pressure and BiLevel positive airway pressure ASV
Respiratory Care 101
Equipment orientation
End of week review and mid-term exam.

Introduction to amplifiers and filters
Calibrations
Artifact recognition and correction
Practice scoring under AASM guidelines
Electrocardiogram (ECG)
Cardiovascular disease associated with sleep-disordered breathing
Vital signs
Practice session—complete hook-up and calibration
Documentation
Obtaining a history and dealing with the difficult patient

Clinical training for A-STEP graduates within an AASM accredited sleep center
We offer the opportunity for those A-STEP graduates beginning their career in polysomnography to gain the clinical experience needed to move from Polysomnographic "Trainee" to Polysomnographic "Technician".
Trainees work directly with patients under the supervision of a certified trainer.
All training conducted at an AASM accredited sleep disorders center.
By achieving the status of Polysomnographic "Technician", the individual has proven through 4 weeks of training and evaluations, that he/she can work with two patients independently under indirect supervision.
